Have you ever drunk water from the well? Was it winter or summer? Was it hot or cold? If you have then you will know that you felt the water cold in summer and hot in winter. However, in reality, its temperature remains the same in both the seasons. In the winters when it is cold outside the 16-25 degree Celsius water feels warm and opposite of this happens in summer. This parable tells us that we do not perceive things according to the way they are, but we observe them according to our situation, surrounding, and state. For example, when we catch fever our body becomes warm and we start to feel that the temperature dropping but in reality, the temperature stays the same but our body temperature changes. Our perception of the world is not completely real it is subjective so, we can change it for our own good
Whenever a tragedy occurs the reaction of every person is different even if the impact of the event is the same on almost all the people. Even if the problem is the same the reaction to it will be unique from each and every individual. Our response is more dependent on ourselves then the event, which is the reason that some people remain completely calm in the situations which drive some completely crazy. You may have heard the story of a couple eating food in a restaurant and suddenly they saw a cockroach on the floor which made them frightened so they started shouting. The people near them also baffled in the situation. Then the waiter came and he focused and silently observed the situation after which he knew that a cockroach was causing the problem. so, he took the menu card and smashed the cockroach which brought the situation under control. This tells us that the ideal way to deal with atrocities is not to react but to think to observe and solve them or mitigate them.
Although we are a lot different in our approaches we think about other people the way we think about ourselves. If we consider doing something as easy we will mostly think it is easy for others if we think the food is delicious we will think of it as delicious for others. It is true most of the time but not always. However, we can use the ability to react differently to a situation for our own good. By becoming a caring and optimistic person we can unconsciously think of other the same way. Not only this but also if we will think of others as good we will focus more on their positive actions then the negative ones which can increase our overall contentment with life.
Almost all of us know that being optimistic and calm is good for us but, everyone can remain calm in the peaceful environment real benefits and a real test of this is downtime. The time we face chaos when nothing is under control and everything seems to work against us and against how it should that is the time when remaining calm peaceful and optimistic bears fruit.
By gradually changing ourselves and becoming a better person we can change our point of view of the world which can make it seem better than we previously thought of because as mentioned earlier our perception of the world is subjective and it can change. On our journey to better self, we may inspire several other people to be and to do good which may inspire several more and lead to an objectively better world for everyone. However, even if it does not the world around us will change surely for good we just have to change ourself.
